While on my quest to clean up my over the hill whites, I found a 2014 Agnitio Durrell Vineyard Chardonnay. Now I know little about Agnitio, but Steve Kistler used to source fruit for his best chars back in the day from both Durrell and Dutton Vineyards. So when I found this Agnitio Durrell Vineyard Chardonnay, I thought, “Here is someone trying to make great Chars!” I was not disappointed. But this overaged beauty was wonderful while watching the Masters on Saturday with some cheese and crackers.

But the main event was to come later in the day. About once a year I indulge in a standing rib roast. With all the prep time and cooking time, one needs some motivation. I found that in a bottle of Chateau Belyce Saint-Emilon Grand Cru which we sipped on during the meal preparation. The medium rate roast was paired with steamed asparagus and baked sweet potato. The wine, a 2008 Cade Napa Cuvee, a 2010 Christmas gift from my dear friend Debra Dunlap. The side of the bottle was peppered with sediment so decanting was appropriate. The wine was balanced, vibrant and paired magnificently with the fatty rib roast. As Lawrence Welk would have commented, “Avunderful! Avunderful!”
