Margie and I were headed up to the Ashville NC area to attend “Beer Camp” with five of my high school Georgia Military Academy (now Woodward Academy) classmates. Having never been to Callaway Gardens, Margie suggested we break up the trip by stopping in LaGrange to take in the gardens and spend the night. We found a restaurant with a nice menu and an extensive wine list, C’Sons.
It was nicely appointed and surprisingly small. We were greeted by the bartender and promptly seated by the waiter. I ordered a bottle of 2021 Carneros Frank Family Chardonnay. The waiter promptly returned indicating they only had a half bottle chilled and did we want that one. We opted instead for the 2021 Santa Barbara County Au Bon Climat.
A note here that they offer their wines in half bottle carafes, sealing the remaining bottle with argon, or some other inert gas.
I went for the Salmon, Margie ordered the Trout. Both were delicious. The only other employee we saw was the presumed young chef who presented our meals. So a lean staff for a Tuesday night, but excellent service. Only nit was that the Chardonnay was served in a large Zwiesel red wine glass.
Still a good option in the small metropolis of LaGrange.
