The Emerald Coast Chapter of the American Wine Society held its April tasting at the home of Greg and Peggy Page on April 16th. The theme for this tasting was Modern Women in Wine and featured eight women who have made a place for themselves in a male dominated industry. The three whites presented were a Spanish Campo Viejo Cava Brute Reserve, a 2022 Brancott Flight Song Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, and the 2019 McBride Sisters Chardonnay from Central Coast California and were priced from $12 to $17.
The reds included the 2020 A to Z Wineworks Pinot Noir from Oregon, a 2018 Ch. Ste. Michelle Indian Wells Merlot from Columbia Valley in Washington state, a 2019 Mathilde Chapoutier Duche’ d’Uzes’ Red Syrah and Grenache blend from Lanquedoc in France, and the finale, a 2019 Penfolds Koonuga Hills Shiraz Cabernet blend from Australia. They ranged from $13 to $22; and the crowd favorite of them all was the Penfolds at $13 a pop!
The food and munchies were varied and abundant and the members all delightful and friendly. Peggy did a great job on the presentation and the outdoor tasting was educational and fun. Pam, Peggy, keep up the good work!
