I was fortunate to be included in an upscale Italian tasting of Paolo Scavino Barolos earlier this week. Ian and the crew of Downtown Bottle Shop are commended for bringing something new and different to the wine tasting arena. The presentation offered six offerings each of 2017 and 2018 Italian Barolos. There was a live zoom call with one of the daughters of the winery proprietor who provided much detail about the winery and the techniques that go into the wines produced. And while I sometimes find such minutia to be a distraction from simply enjoying the wines, there were others that found the detail most helpful. Ian indicated that they hope to continue similar tastings perhaps four times a year, limiting attendance to no more that twenty five participants.

The event was originally scheduled for inside at the Downtown Bottle Shop. However, construction delays precluded that venue and it was held on the outdoor patio at the rear of the Wine Bar on Palafox. And while the ambiance and setting was very delightful, I suggest that meaningful wine tastings (and this one was such!) should be held indoors.

A great presentation, guys! Keep up the good work!
