Margie and I, with good friends Kaj and Carla Sorensen, attended the Gulf Coast Table: a Taste of States food and wine event at Jacksons last Thursday evening. Wow!
This is the first wine and food event I have attended where each wine poured was into a separate wine appropriate glass. Major thumbs up, here. All others, please pay attention.
Expecting the usual small pours and wait time between courses, we ordered a bottle of Sonoma-Cutrer Coastal Chardonnay at a very reasonable $52 tableside. Although purported as a four course meal, it came in five courses.
The wine selection was very well chosen and seemingly less wholesaler oriented: a California bubbly, a nice Argentinian Chardonnay, a delicious Termes Tinta de Toro Toro from Spain and a very approachable North Coast California Cab. And the pours were very generous. The served portions were meaningfully larger as well. We were all feeling sated by the end of the third course!
As always, the service and presentation at Jackson’s were outstanding. We all agreed that the bar for top shelf wine and food events has been raised. All this and put on for less than $100 a seat! And although Chef Irv Miller can’t count, he sure can cook! And getting kudos from Kaj, a world class chef himself, this was impressive! Congrats to the entire crew at Jackson’s!
