Recognizing I was in my seventies before I tasted a decent Pinot Gris, I embarked on a journey to put together a wine tasting of non-chardonnay big whites. After prolonged dialog with numerous folks in the retail and wholesale wine trade, I opted to taste the following wines: a 2021 Fox Run Dry Riesling $15; a 2021 Leirana Albarino $28; a 2022 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio $18; a 2021 Les Ammonites Sancerre Blanc $26; a 2022Kupelwieser Pinot Bianco $19; and a Blindfold Blanc de Noir $26. All the wines were nice, and different from the California style Chardonnays I normally favor. But none of these wines, in my humble opinion, rose to the boldness of my favorite Chars. So I opted instead to do a Chardonnay tasting coming in October.
